By volunteering, you become an integral part of the Gilda’s Club mission to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can have a profound impact on the lives of individuals and families affected by cancer. Whether you’re answering phones, assisting with fundraising events, or hanging out with our kids in Noogieland, your efforts will be deeply appreciated and valued.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Complete our online volunteer application so we can get to know you and your areas of interest.
  2. Visit our calendar to sign up for a Volunteer Orientation time slot. If you run into any problems signing up for an orientation or the dates/times do not work for you, reach out to Kelly Craft at (563) 949-2567 or kcraft@gildasclubqc.org.
  3. Attend the orientation where you’ll get a tour of the clubhouse, learn about who we are and what we do and all the fun ways you can get involved as a volunteer.

NOTE: If you are having issues completing the form with the link above, try our other volunteer form here, or contact our Volunteer Coordinator to start the process via email.

As a volunteer, here is a preview of some of the things you can do at Gilda’s Club:

Bring in snacks that will give our members and guests healthy snack options during activities (fresh fruit, granola bars, pretzels, nuts, etc.). Please coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator before bringing items to donate.

Provide a warm, supportive, and comfortable play environment that fills important psychosocial needs of children impacted by cancer by engaging in interactive play and supervision. Must be able to commit to volunteering at least two times per month.

Must be 16 years of age or older. Background checks required for volunteers ages 18 and over.

Help beautify our Clubhouse! This can be done in many ways, including general cleaning, organizing, decorating, etc. Volunteers could have a regular schedule to come clean, organize, or decorate; or individuals/groups could schedule a one-time session to help with a specific beautification project, like seasonal decorating.

Social event volunteers take ownership of a specific program and manage that program beginning to end. Once matched with a program, volunteers prepare/set-up the Clubhouse for that program, assist during the event and clean-up after the event. Program examples: Coffee & Canines, Group Dinners, potlucks, etc.

Represent Gilda’s Club Quad Cities by speaking to patients and caregivers at hospitals and doctors’ offices on a regularly scheduled basis (weekly, monthly, etc.). Hospital Outreach Volunteers may also be required to fulfill volunteer onboarding from the hospital they are assigned to. All outreach activities must be assigned and approved by Gilda’s Club staff and requires special training.

Represent Gilda’s Club Quad Cities by bringing our message to the greater community. This could involve speaking to various community groups and/or attending health/community/volunteer fairs to share information about Gilda’s Club. Outreach volunteers help to educate and inform the community about our mission and program. All outreach activities must be assigned and approved by Gilda’s Club staff and requires special training.

Help by manning our front desk! This is needed at both of our clubhouses. Volunteers answer phones, conduct Clubhouse tours, provide program information, be available to address emergent needs that may arise, help the administrative team with mailings and other general office duties as needed. You can be the first person someone interacts with when they seek our services!

Volunteers assist Gilda’s Club staff with work that can be done on your device in-office or remotely. Help with
social media, creating marketing materials, proofing documents, etc.

Volunteers assist Gilda’s Club staff in general office duties such as mailings, copying, filing, assembling
outreach folders and other office duties as needed.

Help with day-of fundraising and event needs. This could include helping day-of at a fundraising event, selling raffle tickets at a third-party event, etc. These opportunities would be emailed out on an as-needed basis.

Volunteers plan and staff a Gilda’s Club fundraising event. Meet regularly to plan the event, help with execution (securing sponsorships, calling vendors, help with marketing, etc.), and day-of-event duties.

Volunteers may utilize their specific skill or expertise by. Volunteers interested in this role must complete the Workshop-Lecture-Program Volunteer Form, which includes our speaker guidelines, and be approved by the Program Director.

These workshops could vary greatly. They could be educational, healthy lifestyle, or social. Examples: a nurse wanting to give information about navigating insurance, a knitter wanting to teach a knitting class, a chef or cooking enthusiast wanting to share a special recipe with a cooking demonstration, etc.
